To start enjoying my new format I want to share these "sticky buns", ideal for a good breakfast. The original recipe is from fiveandspice, and my intention was to follow it as it is, but I had to adapt it because I basically did not have two key ingredients: cardamom and yeast.

On January 1st every shop or market around the area where I live was closed, but I was determined to bake these buns for my family, so I had to use a bit of my imagination. I would not get the distinctive flavour of cardamom, but I could use a safe spice such as cinnamon. Also, I needed to leaven the dough, so I thought of the method I had learned from
Mario Batali's recipe for panettone I
recently posted on December. I made use of some cream of tartar and baking powder. Thankfully I was not short of lemons, so at least I could rescue some of the original flavours. And last but not least, instead of baking them in one round or square baking tin I used a muffin tray, as
this brilliant blogger did, because the dough would not be the "pull apart" kind, I was sure it would turn out more like cake.
